[media_images/academy/bob_romkes_1.jpg] As a “Master of Arts” graduate from the Royal College of Art’s Vehicle Design Studio, Bob Romkes has won the prestigious Interior Motives ”Best Conceptual Exterior Award for 2009”.

This event was the seventh annual Interior Motives award ceremony and Bob was awarded his Trophy by David Shall of Technicon Design.

The best Conceptual Exterior category attracts entries from many young and talented designers from all over the globe, and it was his outstanding execution and attention to detail that secured Bob Romkes' the Equilibrium Concept Victory.

Bob’s project was entirely developed in Alias Surface. The Majenta Academy enabled Bob to attain very strong basis skills in Alias modelling and allowed him to effectively understand how to work quickly and efficiently with the Autodesk Alias Software Product.

The end result was a model with a sleek exterior made from a rubber-metal material with nanotechnology at its core - materials currently being explored in aviation for use on airplane wings.

This artificial muscle enables the car's surfacing to stretch by 300 percent, while also being three times lighter and stronger than metal. It also expands and contracts to steer the wheels of the car via a drive-by-wire system.

"Before getting into the final year of Ma Vehicle Design at the Royal College of Art, I had no experience working with Alias at all. At this point I decided that to be able to produce a complete project at the required level and to make a physical model with both interior and exterior, I had to learn the software. Alias is a tool that can push the design to the next level. It enables you to study and improve every detail on your design. I heard many success stories from previous students at the RCA who joined the Majenta academy in the past and so I decided to join their intensive training program. At this training I learned a very strong basic skill of Alias modelling in order to understand how to work with the software. And after the training course I managed to translate my full design into Alias Autodesk and produce a physical model using Rapid prototyping, CNC milling, and vacuum forming. I learned to make photorealistic renderings using Showcase, to be able to study the surface quality of the design and also to quickly study different materials and colours.

I can recommend this course to anyone who wants to learn a strong basis of Alias to be able to quickly understand the software and translate your designs into 3d"

[media_images/academy/bob_romkes_2.jpg] Bob spent the first part of the course at Majenta learning the principles of 3D class A modeling.

The Majenta Academy strategy is to limit the numbers of Students attending the specialist individual training sessions, thus providing maximum personal attention to individual students should they need it throughout whole course duration.

This gave Bob the personal attention he needed to allow him, during the second part of the training, to start preparing the model for his final year project.

During this time at the Majenta Academy, Bob imported into Alias his 2D sketches and with the professional advice from the experienced tutors of the Academy Bob succeeded in generating a good quality model which enabled him to produce a stunning prototype from the Alias 3D data he had created.

The Alias training Bob gained at the Majenta Academy also helped him secure the position of: “Winner of the 2009 Interior Motives Design Award for the best Conceptual Exterior”!
