IBM Storage Area Network Enterprise Directors
IBM TotalStorage SAN256B
The IBM TotalStorage® SAN256B is a next generation high-performance, high-density and high-availability SAN director designed to be the foundation for large enterprise-class infrastructure simplification and business continuity solutions. The SAN256B director provides from 16 to 384 ports and contains two control processors for high availability. From one to eight switch port blades can be configured, each of which contains either 16, 32 or 48 Fibre Channel (FC) ports. Each FC port can support 4, 2 or 1 Gigabits per second (Gbps) link speeds (4 Gbps link speeds require storage system hardware that supports 4 Gbps throughput). One or two routing blades can be configured, each of which contains sixteen FC ports plus two 1 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports for connection to an Internet Protocol (IP) network. With a extensive standard features—including Advanced Inter-Switch Link (ISL) Trunking, FC-FC Routing, Web Tools, Advanced Zoning, Fabric Watch, Performance Monitoring and Fabric Access Layer (API)—and available optional features—including Remote Switch Activation, Extended Fabric Activation, Advanced Security Activation, IBM FICON® with CUP and FCIP Activation—the SAN256B can support a wide range of advanced SAN management, extended fabric and security requirements. The SAN256B can serve as both the core or edge building block in an IBM TotalStorage b-type fabric or as a high-density stand-alone director, helping provide investment protection and configuration flexibility.
