The Coventry University 2016 Industrial Design Degree Show Industry Night allowed the industrial design students to showcase their work to peers and leading industry professionals. It delivered with aplomb.

This annual show is organised by a student volunteer committee and supported behind the scenes by workshop technicians and other members of university staff.tomas-omasta-volanti-helicopter

Majenta Solutions have a long-standing relationship with the students, providing them with the relevant Alias, VRED and other software skills that will truly benefit them once they have graduated.

Having attended the 2015 Industrial Design Degree Show, it’s safe to say that the bar was raised once again this year.

Nick John, Industrial Design & Visualisation Manager at Majenta Solutions, supported Majenta Academy graduate Tomas Omasta with his ‘Volanti’ project this year. The BA Automotive Design student aimed to create something which translated automotive impression into a non-automotive entity. So, Tomas decided to expand the JLR product portfolio by creating an autonomous luxury helicopter.

Nick supported Tomas creating the design in Alias and rendering it within VRED. Tomas provided visitors to his showcase with an immersive VR experience.

Upon visiting the showcase, Nick said: “Tomas has really applied himself to his project, with a well-executed design and great use of available digital visualisation techniques, he’s got a great future in industrial design ahead of him.”

After the Industrial Design Degree Show Industry Night finished, Tomas smiled at said: “After all the hard work I put into my project, it was great to see so many people enjoying my Volanti showcase and viewing the completed designs through VR.”

Over 140 industrial design students showcased their products at the event at Coventry University. Students had a particular focus, whether that was Interior Design, Product Design or Automotive and Transport. The Volanti showcase from Tomas was exceptional, but other students showcased well-executed work too.

Well done to all those who took part and a big thank you to all those who helped make it happen.
