Data – if you create it, then it’s yours, right? Unless you actively decide to give up that right, MX thinks that your data is always your data, no matter where it is. Unfortunately – and rather worryingly – not everyone in our field agrees. What’s more, the people who choose to store their data with these companies probably don’t even know about it.

Let’s face it, data ownership can be a tricky subject for businesses, especially when third parties are involved. But for us, it’s pretty simple. With MX, your data’s yours. Always. We like to think we’re pretty clear about this in our Terms and Conditions, too:

“The Customer shall own all rights, title and interest in and to all
of the Customer Data and shall have sole responsibility for the legality,
reliability, integrity, accuracy and quality of the Customer Data.”

However, other services are a little more unclear on who can access your data, and in some cases, what they can do with it. Some ‘cloud’ services permit third parties access to your data, while others express their right to use, share and even commercialise your work for whatever reason. This 2016 article from Enterprise Times has alarmingly discovered that: “66.6% [of cloud storage providers] specify that the customer does NOT own all the data uploaded to the service” and only “9.1% encrypt at rest”.

This is a huge “red flag” to businesses relying on cloud storage, as “once data has been uploaded into a service, the service owner confers upon itself a right to use and resell [the] data”, and that although many boast about their encryption, it’s clearly “more about sales pitch and lip service than real service delivery.”

MX, on the other hand, treats the users and their work with the utmost respect and privacy. Rather than storing your data in the cloud, we allow you to securely transfer your data inside your own highly encrypted data-distribution network. We know that you’ll be using our file sharing system for your intellectual property and all manner of important and confidential files. Put simply, we wouldn’t want our personal data shared, so we don’t share yours.

Rather than storing your data in the cloud, we allow you to securely transfer your data inside your own highly encrypted data-distribution network.

Also, if you do decide to use MX to share your data, you can rest assured that it’s only those you give permission to who can access it. There are no unprotected share links here, open for anyone to click and view. This alone can lead to alarming security breaches as some cloud storage providers utilise share links, for example, which could allow anyone to access data without password protection. Our platform only permits users with authorised accounts to download the data.

In today’s ever-connected society, with cyber-crime rates only increasing, it’s only right that you know everything there is to know about your very own data. From how it’s stored to who can access it, MX doesn’t hide anything in the small print. Not only is our data exchange platform quick, easy to use and secure, but we are very clear about your rights with us too. It’s simple: if you’ve created it, then it’s yours!
