Customer Challenge:

VINCI Construction set out to deliver UCL’s new, world-class campus located on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. To successfully carry out this project, they were required to provide a fully coordinated, clash-free 3D model of the scheme at the handover stage.

This scheme comprised of student accommodation, a research centre
and multiple teaching spaces. It was important that all of this came together in an accurate Asset Information Model.

Additionally, VINCI Construction had to deliver COBie* asset data to support UCL’s ongoing management and the operation of their new facility.

*Construction Operations Building Information Exchange – international standard of asset management information

Majenta Solution:

Our experienced BIM Information Management Team were able to step in at RIBA Stage 4 (Technical Design stage) of the project. Majenta initially established a fortnightly programme of clash detection workshops and model audits, along with federating the project model on a monthly basis. Toward the end stages, the frequency of model coordination workshops significantly reduced as model clashes were resolved. Our early involvement meant the project team had a clear picture of the current status of all BIM-related deliverables.

Majenta provided personalised feedback and early visibility of key data so that any issues and non-conformities were identified to ensure that VINCI met all client BIM requirements.

Business Impact:

VINCI Construction was able to locate potential construction issues early in the UCL project. This provided them with plenty of time to rectify issues, meaning consequences such as significant delays, contractual
penalties and errors occurring on-site could be avoided.

Majenta’s expertise in model coordination and model auditing meant that VINCI Construction could instil confidence in UCL that their requirements would be met in full, on time, and on budget.

The support provided by Majenta’s BIM Information Management Team has helped VINCI to meet the target practical completion date and provide a first-class BIM handover service to VINCI’s client.

Majenta have been a key part of our Consultant team on UCL East Pool Street West, providing BIM expertise from Day 1 of the project via structured BIM processes and workshops, whilst being supportive and robust in their management of BIM compliance.”
