How Secure CAD Data Exchange Keeps Engineering On-Schedule at EVTEC

How do you keep complex engineering programs on track when even a minor CAD data hiccup can cause downstream issues? For EVTEC, the answer is a managed CAD data service that delivers the right models and drawings, fast. From prompt turnarounds to multi-format delivery, Majenta’s support ensures design reviews and change control run smoothly.

Project background

EVTEC Aluminium is a leader in complex aluminium castings, supporting the full product lifecycle – from prototypes to volume manufacturing – with in‑house casting, machining, testing, and assembly. As a Tier 1 supplier to Jaguar Land Rover, EVTEC relies on accurate and timely CAD data and drawings from the OEM to maintain quality and keep programmes on schedule. As JLR’s data exchange routes evolved, Majenta stepped in as a trusted, third‑party facilitator for secure CAD transfers between JLR and EVTEC.

We sat down with EVTEC’s Commercial and Project Management lead, Steve Hoole, and Wellesley Bourke, Design CAD Engineer, to discuss how the service has impacted their business over the past six years.

How Majenta Data Services works at EVTEC

As Wellesley explains, “My role really is what would be an old‑fashioned data shepherd. All the data for the organisation comes to me. I process it, review it, and put it together into a format that everyone can see. I’m really the single point of contact for any CAD data that comes through from JLR.” From a commercial and project oversight perspective, Steve highlights the risk: “One slight hiccup on CAD data being transferred across causes all sorts of issues and misalignments.”

Majenta’s fully-managed data service handles the regular transfer of CAD, drawings, and derivative formats from JLR to EVTEC, as well as handling the same process in reverse – on an ad hoc basis. Wellesley describes how it works day‑to‑day: “The Majenta team who do the downloading and transfer over – they’re very prompt. Most of the data sent is not so time-sensitive that it needs to be dealt with within a few hours. But often I’ve requested data and been able to download it the same day.”

Benefits of the service

Thanks to Majenta’s managed data service, EVTEC can rely on fast and convenient access to the right CAD and drawing data, reducing delays and ensuring that engineering work proceeds according to schedule. Over the years of working together, this consistency has built confidence across teams, as Wellesley comments, “If JLR have raised the request in the morning, more often than not, I’ve had that data sent to me by Majenta that same afternoon. We’ve had no issue with transfers not happening.”

Format flexibility and reduced risk

The service also provides flexibility across data formats, allowing EVTEC to work with whatever the programme demands – native CATIA models, neutral STEP files, or PDF drawings – without additional friction. In Wellesley’s words: “Native CATIA, STEP, PDF drawings – it’s always done.” By minimising transfer errors and missed updates, the service lowers operational risk and prevents costly rework.

Proactive communication and problem-solving

Finally, Majenta’s proactive communication reduces the burden on EVTEC to chase status or triage upstream issues. The team routinely steps in to coordinate with JLR engineers when needed, recalls Wellesley: “The Majenta team have literally made calls (on our behalf) explaining to JLR what they had to do to raise a transfer.” This hands-on support keeps the process moving and enables EVTEC to focus on delivering engineering solutions.

Impact

The cumulative effect is smoother programme execution at EVTEC, with timely data enabling design reviews, change control, and downstream activities to stay aligned. Consistent access to accurate data ensures that meetings are productive and decisions are made based on the latest information.

Majenta’s responsiveness complements EVTEC’s “single point of contact” model for data, creating clarity and accountability in day‑to‑day operations. This reinforces trust, invaluable when timelines are tight. As Steve puts it, “I don’t think we’ve had any issues working with Majenta – it’s been pretty clean.”

Because the service adapts quickly to shifting requirements – different formats, occasional reverse transfers, or varying urgency – EVTEC can respond to programme changes without introducing new bottlenecks. As Wellesley sums up, “It’s always done, whatever requested,” which translates into fewer surprises and steadier delivery across projects.

"We’ve had no issues with working alongside Majenta at all – they have always been very proactive. We would certainly use other services as and when needed."
